1 Day Shimba Hills

A Breath of Fresh Air:
This full-day package from Diani Beach to Shimba Hills provides an opportunity to go on a Wildlife Safari inside East Africa’s second-largest Coastal Forest and Swim in the only waterfall on the Kenyan Coast.

We will pick you up from Diani at 7: 30am for a scenic drive to Shimba Hills National park. The second-largest coastal forest in East Africa after the Arabuko-Sokoke Forest in Watamu.

We will arrive at the Shimba Hills Gate at 8.30am and then pop up the roof and begin our first game drive. Shimba Hills is rich in flora and fauna and hosts a high density of African elephants. Other animal species found in the area are Sable antelope, elephant shrew, bushy-tailed mongoose, and other small mammals like fruit bats. The forest is an important bird area and is endowed with forest birdlife while the grasslands hold localized species such as red-necked-Spur fowl, Croaking Cisticola, and Zanzibar Red Bishop.

We will finish the game drive at 10:30 am and begin our guided and scenic, 45-minute nature walk, down to the Sheldrick Waterfalls. This breathtaking 25-meter high cascade is the only waterfall on the entire Kenyan coast.

At the waterfall, we will take a moment to enjoy the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and a refreshing Swim before sitting down for a picnic at 12:30pm (Meals, snacks, and drinks NOT included in the cost. We recommend that you pack a sandwich and soft drink.)

After the picnic, we will begin our hike back up. This time it will take about 1.5 hours because we are climbing at a slower pace.
We will arrive back to our van at 2:30pm and enjoy an en-route game drive through the viewpoints as we depart Shimba Hills National Park.
Drop off in Diani at around 4:00pm.

We will provide one 750ml of mineral water in the van but we recommend that you carry some more in a reusable container due to the ban on single-use plastic inside Kenyan national parks.

Meals and Snacks:
These are not included in the cost, we however recommend that you pack a sandwich or light lunch, some snacks, and soft drinks but nothing too heavy as you will carry it with you during the hike.
